Information For The Recently Diagnosed

Dental Work

If you are on coumadin® don't worry about normal dental checks and cleanings. You can have your teeth cleaned and you won't "bleed to death" while there. If your dentist doesn't know that, either it's time to educate her or chose another dentist.

If, however, are having major dental work, like gum surgery, make sure to inform both the dentist and hemo doc. They'll work together to take you off your coumadin® for a short period (while starting LWMH). You'll take heparin shots for a short period, and once the dental work is completed, you'll go back on the coumadin® and off the heparin. Taking LWMH is easy.
