Alternatives to Coumadin®
Some take aspirin or a baby aspirin instead of anticoagulants. Aspirin does not antigoagualte the blood in the same manner as a drug like Coumadin® but some feel comfortable doing so.
Currently, there are several drugs being tested as alternatives to Coumadin®. But these have not passed FDA testing yet.
Some swear that red wine anticoagulates their blood enough.
Some try herbs that anticoagulate the blood. I don' t know much about this area yet.
Some can't tolerate or are allergic to coumadin or fail coumadin thereapy and take LMWH instead.
Talk with your hemo doc if you would like to try alternatives to Coumadin®.
