Alternatives to Coumadin^®

Some take aspirin or a baby aspirin instead of anticoagulants. Aspirin does not antigoagualte the blood in the same manner as a drug like Coumadin^® but some feel comfortable doing so.

Currently, there are several drugs being tested as alternatives to Coumadin^®. But these have not passed FDA testing yet.

Some swear that red wine anticoagulates their blood enough.

Some try herbs that anticoagulate the blood. I don' t know much about this area yet.

Some can't tolerate or are allergic to coumadin or fail coumadin thereapy and take LMWH instead.
